OCM BOCES Cosmetology Program Featured on Local News

On Monday, March 21, 2011 OCM BOCES senior cosmetology students from the Irvin E. Henry Campus hosted "The Time of My Life" competitive hair show at Barbagallo’s Restaurant in East Syracuse. The competition/show featured the students  competing and modeling their hair creations in five categories - Masquerade, Decades, Red Carpet, Safari, Princess and Disney.

Adult Students Graduate From OCM BOCES’ Cortland-Area Training Programs



On Thursday, March 10, 2011 OCM BOCES celebrated the accomplishments of our Cortland-area adult students completing training in the following programs: HVAC/R, Automotive Technician, Cosmetology, Medical Assistant, Office Technology and Electrical Maintenance Technician. Approximately 50 students graduated from these programs.

OCM BOCES’ Students Participate in Regional SkillsUSA Competition – Students from Baldwinsville, Liverpool, Marathon, North Syracuse and Tully Districts Bring Home Medals

Students from OCM BOCES’ Syracuse and Cortland campuses participated in the SkillsUSA Regional Competition at Delhi University on Thursday, February 17, 2011. Fifty students from the two campuses competed against other career and technical education students in contests varying from Nurse Assisting, Commercial Baking, Customer Service, Carpentry, Automotive Service, Criminal Justice, Food and Beverage Service and more.

Several OCM BOCES students placed in the competition, achieving four 1st place medals, three 2nd place medals and one 3rd place medal. The following OCM BOCES students were SkillsUSA Regional-level medalists:
  • Shawn Bocyck (junior Laboratory Technician student from the Baldwinsville Central School District) took first place in the Related Technical Math competition
  • Yaroslav (Slavik) Burko (senior Automotive Collision Repair student from the Baldwinsville Central School District) took first place in the Collision Repair competition
  • Mikayla Cregan (senior Culinary Arts student from the Tully Central School District) took second place in the Food and Beverage Service competition
  • Asia Darbey (junior Pastry Arts student from the North Syracuse Central School District) took third place in the Job Demonstration Open competition
  • ShawnMichael Derrick (senior Pastry Arts student from the North Syracuse Central School District) took first place in the Commercial Baking competition
  • Mackenzie Edinger (junior Graphic Communications student from the Tully Central School District) took second place in the Customer Service competition
  • Phillip Spinella (senior Construction Technology student from the Liverpool Central School District) took second place in the Carpenter’s Assistant competition
  • Kyle Vandeburg (senior Automotive Technology Student from the Marathon Central School District) took first place in the Basic Vehicle Maintenance competition

Congratulations to all OCM BOCES’ students who participated and placed in the Regional SkillsUSA Competition! New York State SkillsUSA competitions will be held April 13-15, 2011 at the New York State Fairgrounds.

McEvoy Education Campus Holds Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser

OCM BOCES’ SkillsUSA and Epicurean Club students from the McEvoy Education Campus held a successful spaghetti dinner fundraiser on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 on their campus in Cortland. More than 130 meals were served and the money raised will be used to support the students in their upcoming occupational competitions for ProStart and SkillsUSA. Many thanks to everyone who came out to support the OCM BOCES students!
